Follow Friday: HeavenFirefly
I know this is only my second Follow Friday, but I’m already changing things up. This is less of a Follow Friday, and more of a Click-and-Support Friday.
My friend HeavenFirefly is pretty much an expert on makeup, wigs, and fashion in general. Also Disneyland. But for someone who has a knack for creating new looks time and time again, she happens to be quite genuine and beautiful, and genuinely beautiful. Which is why it’s no surprise to me that she is a finalist in a Snow White contest.
Second row down. On the left. Just sayin’.
There is a collection of Snow White looks, all very creative and uniquely interpretive of how to best capture Snow White in the visual medium of makeup. And as you can see, she went for the traditional Disney look, which I think is the boldest thing a person in a Snow White contest could do. She has to live up to the iconic image of Walt Disney’s first and favorite princess; the loving, innocent girl with the rosy personality and colorful dress. This interpretation of Snow White has pretty much become the default for the majority of people who have experienced American film since it began a hundred years ago. Disney’s Snow White has been around for more than 70, and that’s probably why when most people think of Snow White, they think of her.
And that’s probably why Snow White is no longer done that way. At all. Current trends portray Snow as a warrior lady of the land, or a martyr for a dark and foreboding realm, or simply as a tragic figure for all of fairytaledom. Everyone shys away from the traditional image of a sweet, pretty girl, who was nothing more than just a good person. People see that as boring, overdone, and sometimes even insulting to girls who are capable of being more than a damsel in distress. And that is all fine and dandy. But HeavenFirefly is happy as the Snow White who didn’t need to be anything more than a honest, loving person. And that’s really nice. And personally, admist all the no-longer-innocent versions of Snow White, I think she stands out in the boldest, and bravest way, as the one who remained just as fair as she always was.
Still though, that’s not even the reason I think you should click that link and like her photograph. That’s all just something I thought was really nice. You should click the link cuz she makes for an a wonderful Snow White.
And you should follow her cuz she makes for other amazing characters as well.
